Global freight transportation and logistics provider XPO Logistics reported mixed financial results for the third quarter on Oct. 28.

The Greenwich, Conn.-based company’s net income rose 18% to $136 million, or $1.27 per share, from $115 million, or 81 cents, in the same year-ago period.

ATA Freight Forecast Predicts 25.6% Growth by 2030

Freight tonnage is projected to increase 25.6% by 2030 according to American Trucking Associations’ Freight Transportation Forecast: 2019 to 2030.

Annual tonnage is expected to grow to more than 20.5 billion tons by 2030, and with it, revenue is expected to jump almost 54% to $1.6 trillion.

Spot Rates for Vans, Reefers Slip in April

April saw strong volumes and abundant capacity in spot market truckload freight, according to DAT Solutions’ monthly report.

Volumes for dry van freight — the most common semi-trailer type — increased 2.4% in April compared with a year earlier, according to DAT, which operates the largest truckload freight marketplace in North America.

But despite sustained volume, the national average spot van rate fell 35 cents per mile year over year due to readily available truckload capacity.
